SFG attended the Advisory Board meeting of the Brazzaville Foundation for Peace and Conservation held in London in September. Other participants in the meeting included HRH Prince Michael of Kent, HSH Prince Philip of Lichtenstein, Lord Bell of the UK House of Lords, Dr Matthew Phosa (former Treasurer General of the African National Congress) and Philip Jonart, international coordinator of the Brazzaville Foundation. Mr Jean-Yves Ollivier is the Chairman of the Board and moving spirit behind the initiative.

The Brazzaville Foundation has been established to commemorate the Brazzaville Accord of the late 1980s which ended the Cold War in Africa. It paved the way for the independence of the Namibia, pull out of Cuban troops and eventual release of Nelson Mandela from the South African imprisonment. In a recent commemoration meeting to celebrate the silver jubilee of the accord, several African leaders proposed the establishment of the Brazzaville Foundation and request Mr Jean Yves Ollivier to provide the leadership in view of the critical role played by him in successful ending of the African cold war in the 1980s.

With its support to the Brazzaville Foundation, SFG is expanding its sphere of work to conflict resolution in Africa. This will be done in the most practical way, and not through seminars and research papers. It is expected that this cooperation will lead to practical solutions which will change the situation on the ground. 

Other members of the Advisory Board include Dr Jose Ramos Horta, Nobel Laureate and former President of Timore Leste and Mr Kabine Komara, former Prime Minister of Guinea. HRH Prince Michael of Kent, a distinguished member of the royal family of Great Britain is the Royal Patron of the initiative.
