Strategic Foresight Group's founders were special invitees at the Horasis China Meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine, that took place on 14-15 October. Founded by Dr Frank Jurgen Richter, a visionary entrepreneur and management guru from Switzerland, Horasis brings together business leaders and change makers to brainstorm new ideas and facilitate business partnerships. The meeting in Kyiv was the 14th edition of the Horasis China Meeting that saw the largest number of Chinese CEOs attending a business conclave in Kyiv in recent years.
The Horasis China Meeting took place on the backdrop of the growing US-China trade war and China's search for alternative markets and investment destinations. Dr Frank Richter created an unusual opportunity for the Chinese private sector leadership in Ukraine, which has a special relationship with the European Union, and with the presence of a large number of engineers and technical experts. China is planning to enhance its technological edge by investing in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and other technologies on the frontier of scientific research. China is also seeking benefits from Ukraine's experience in military technology. Ukraine also happens to be at a critical location in China's Belt Road Initiative. While China and the United States engage in a trade conflict, they may find space to interact in high technology sectors through Ukraine which has close relations with the United States through its diaspora.
Addressing the Opening Plenary, SFG President Sundeep Waslekar urged China to use its investment potential in Africa, East Asia and Latin America to promote cross-border cooperation in water, hydro-electricity, agriculture, and related sectors. SFG's President and Executive Director also spoke at the sessions on green economy and Chinese investment abroad, arguing a case for cooperative approaches.
