A team from SFG visited Budapest at the end of January 2013 for consultations on the Global Water Security Initiative. They met with a wide ranging group of officials from the government, including  the Director of Department of Foreign Affairs at the Office of the President of the Republic. The team also visited the Regional Environmental Centre for Central and Eastern Europe.

Hungary is poised to play an important role in the water arena over the next few years, and plans to host a Water Summit in Budapest in October 2013.
