On August 9-14, 2015, members of the Blue Peace Middle East Community embarked on a learning journey to explore and understand in detail about cooperation in the Senegal River Basin in West Africa. The 20-person delegation from the Middle East included former ministers, senior policy makers, academic and technical experts and leading members of the Blue Peace Media Network.

About 100 policy makers, Members of Parliament, serving and former Ministers, media leaders, academics, and water experts from across the Middle East and the representatives of successful transboundary water cooperation institutions from Africa participated in the International Conference on ‘Exploring the Water-Peace Nexus: Blue Peace in West Asia’ held in Amman, Jordan on 18-19 March, 2015. The participants strongly emphasised high level political commitment to regional cooperation and joint management of transboundary water resources as a prerequisite for sustainable peace-building in the region.

Blue Peace in the Middle East - Mekong Learning Journey in Cambodia and Lao PDR, November 2014
On November 17-20, 2014, members of the Blue Peace Middle East Community embarked on a learning journey to explore and learn first-hand about cooperation on the Lower Mekong River Basin in South East Asia. The delegation from the Middle East included Members of Parliament, senior policy makers, academic and technical experts and leading members of the Blue Peace Media Network. The Mekong Learning Journey was conducted over a period of four days in Cambodia and Lao PDR during which the participants were able to directly experience and learn from the working of the Mekong River Commission and derive key learnings for the Middle East.

Blue Peace for the Middle East Roundtable on Israel-Palestine-Jordan, October 2014
Several distinguished policy makers, including former Cabinet Ministers from Israel, Palestine and Jordan met at Harris Manchester College, Oxford, on October 1-2, 2014, to discuss possible ways forward in improving water relations between the three countries as a contribution to building trust, cooperation and peace in the region. The roundtable was co-hosted by the Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict at Harris Manchester College, Oxford University and Strategic Foresight Group, in cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Political Directorate of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Government of Switzerland.

About 90 policy makers, Members of Parliament, serving and former Ministers, media leaders, academics and water experts from across the Middle East came together for the first annual High Level Forum on Blue Peace in the Middle East at Istanbul on 19-20 September 2014. The forum was co-hosted by the Strategic Foresight Group and MEF University of Istanbul, Turkey in cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Political Directorate of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Geneva Consensus On Tigris River, June 2014
A meeting was organized in Geneva on 3 June 2014, between senior representatives of Iraq and Turkey, with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Political Directorate of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The meeting resulted in a major breakthrough in developing consensus between multiple stakeholder representatives of Iraq and Turkey on a Plan of Action for promoting exchange and calibration of data and standards pertaining to Tigris river flows.

The International Conference on “Water Cooperation for a Secure World–Focus on the Middle East” was held in Amman, Jordan on November 27-28, 2013. The Conference provided a platform for experts from Asia, Africa and Europe to share their experiences in collaborative management of shared water resources.
